HSLUWI - Projektplattform

F.A.Q.

Q1: I am in the WK (or else ...) and therefore can not work on my project work. Can I get a date extension?

A1: A WK is not a sufficient reason for an extension of the project duration / shift of the submission date. Should you not be able to devote sufficient time and attention to the processing of your project due to private, professional, work and / or other obligations, you must de-register from the module.

Q2: Can I delegate the creation of the task to my supervisor?

A2: The task must be compulsorily created by the student, with the approval of the supervisor and the industrial partner. A confirmation by email is sufficient for the approval.

Q3: I can not submit my assignment on time. Can I submit the assignment later and accordingly complete the project work later?

A3: An extension of the deadline for the submission of the assignment is only possible with the consent of the module responsible. An early submission is encouraged, as well as a thorough preparation for the final presenation for the bachelor thesis. A late delivery of the task is not a sufficient reason for an extension of the BAT, resp. Duration / shift of the reporting date.'

Q4: Is it necessary to enter the project ideas pool, even if an own project proposal has been submitted?

A4: You have to enter in the project ideas pool, even if you submitted your own project proposal. The registration in the project ideas pool is needed to plan the supervisor capacities and manage the database for the BATs.

Q5: Until when can I de-register from the BAT / industrial project?

A5: he module must be signed off via the secretariat - at the latest by the end of the second semester week. Later cancellations lead to \'failed\'! Please also note the binding regulations of the Lucerne University of Applied Arts and Sciences, School of Engineering and Architecture (see Studierenden-Ecke).

Q6: I cannot submit my project proposal in time. Can I get an extension for the deadline?

A6: The allocation of project topics to all students who have not yet submitted their project proposal will start on the submission date. This allocation is binding. Unfortunately, we cannot deviate from this approach. Note that completing the project outline does not require detailed project planning. A first project idea (objective) is sufficient. Usually this can be completed within one hour. Try to convince your industry partners to do this at an early stage. If necessary, you can develop your own proposal and have it approved by the industry partner. The objectives in the project proposal can be described roughly, more precise specifications can be made later in the task description.

Q7: An interviewee has asked me to obtain permission before any publication. Do I have to give him the thesis for approval before I hand it in?

A7: The desire to protect the personal rights of an interviewee should generally be respeced without having the obligation to let them approve the entire thesis. Suggestion: Give the interviewee a section of the interview for approval. Avoid, if possible, to list parts in the thesis that restrict your possibilities of using the thesis in a relevant way. This is not always possible (especially if you have signed an NDA with your partner). If necessary, you can transcribe the interview in a separate document, which you treat as a referenced source and deliver separately.

Q8: How are interviews properly authorized?

A8: We recommend the following method:

  • Record the essential statements in written form. This is best done in the form of a verbatim transcript or report (e. g. To the question how he encounters such problems Mr. Meier has anwered that in his company the superiors usually seek direct discussion with all those involved. He said literally:"In a direct debate in the presence of all parties involved, things are called by the name. Afterwards, everyone knows exactly where they are." )
  • Send the verbatim transcript/report to the interviewee for revisal and approval. A confirmation via email is sufficient. However, make sure to keep the email traffic. This countercheck and release has significant advantages:
    • You can simplify sentences (translate into written language) and shorten texts. Through the release your corrections and simplifications will be legalized by the interviewee.
    • The interviewee often uses the opportunity to make additions to the content in order to improve the quality of his statements.

Q9: What are the contents of the chapter on methodology of the final documentation?

A9: Describe the main steps to solve the problem. Which methods were used in which combination? Display the main steps in a block diagram (display the logical relationships, not the temporal ones). In addition, you should also consider the advantages and disadvantages as well as the limitations of the methods used. What impact do these limits have on your work?

Q10: Can I submit the appendix only electronically in PAIND and BAT?

A10: The appendix is printed for PAIND and BAT together with the main part. However, there may be additional project documents (delivery items) such as posters, brochures, sourcecode etc., which are only to be handed in on the CD.

Q11: How should confidential data be handled on the poster, especially if the project is under a Non Disclosure Agreeement NDA (written confidentiality agreement)?

A11: Typically, the industrial partner wants to protect the trade secrets it supplies. Such data should therefore generally not be reproduced on the poster, even if no explicit NDA has been signed. In the case of an NDA, we recommend that the poster content is released by the industry partner (have deadline in mind). In the worst case, the poster should contain at least the title of the thesis, the names of the participating students and HSLU supervisors as well as the project plan.

Q12: How should a report which a written NDA (Non Disclosure Agreeement = written confidentiality agreement) have been signed be dealt with?

A12: On the headline of each page, you should read the \'HSLU CONFIDENTIAL\' note. The code \'Confidential: Lock, Insight is not possible\' should be marked on the cover page. The report with such a note is kept under lock and key by the library.

Q13: Is it possible to complete the project in a team?

A13: Working in the team is possible under the following conditions:

  • Every student has his / her own task
  • Each student has his / her own report and receives an individual evaluation

For related topics, please inform us accordingly. We will try to have these topics supervised by the same lecturer(s).

Q14: Is there a guideline on what is to be addressed in the presentation or how it should be structured?

A14: In terms of content, you are basically free. Remember that the expert will be present at BAT presentations. A possible structure is:

  • Present problem description
  • Presenting the initial situation (de quoi s\'agît-il?)
  • Methodology applied
  • Analysis: key findings with derivation/reasoning
  • Conclusion (so what?)
  • Outlook (how to proceed?)
  • Personal learnings (from project management, risk management, content, É)

The time for your presentation is very limited. Therefore, you have to think very carefully about the structure and reduce the content to the essentials. A tip: additional slides may be placed in the attachment and, if necessary, used in the Q&A session.

Q15: Where can I find specialist articles?

A15: pecialist articles (scientific papers) can be found, for example, in the electronic databases of our library:

  1. Go to the T&A Webpage
  2. Click the Link \'Konsortiums der Schweizer Hochschulbibliotheken\'
  3. Select the subject area (z.B. Wirtschaft und Dienstleistungen)
  4. Select a suitable database for you (z.B. ABI Inform)

Notes:

  • You have to be physically in the HSLU intranet, access via VPN is not supported.
  • Older articles may not be available as full text. In this case, please contact the supervising lecturer (s).

Q16: The industrial partners cannot meet the date of the final module examinations. You have therefore been asked whether the end of module presentation can be postponed.

A16: Unfortunately, the date can only be postponed for compelling reasons, since the planning is linked to various constraints. It is not necessary for the industry partner to take part in the test. Actually, the presentation is not particularly attractive for the industrial partner, since guests must leave the room after the presentation and are not allowed to be present during the discussion of grades between lecturers and experts. As an alternative, it is recommend to organise a separate final presentation for the industry partner. There the requirements of the industrial partner can be specifically addressed.

Q17: I am abroad and send my report by post. What happens if the mail arrives late at WIs assistant? Would in such a case coun the post stamp?

A17: The risk of timely submission is in the students hand, regardless of the transmission method. It si recommended to plan the shipment with sufficient time reserve or to bring the documents personally. When planning, please note that each copy you submit requires an original signed declaration of authorship.

Q18: As seen in the task description, the presentations must be submitted on a CD or DVD. Does the final presentation also belong on it?

A18: The presentations include the final presentation, therefore it must also be handed in on the CD or DVD. You are allowed to use a corrected version in the final presentation, which you will then send to your supervisor by email.
